বগুড়ার শেরপুরে তীব্র শীত আর ঘন কুয়াশা উপেক্ষা করে শেরপুরের কৃষকরা ব্যস্ত সময় পার করছে ইরি-বোরো চাষে। সরেজমিনে গিয়ে দেখা যায়, উপরের সূর্যের আলো কাঁদা-পানিতে ঝিলিক মেরে জানান দিচ্ছে বোরো ধানের রোপন সফলতা। দিনমজুররা এমনকি এলাকার ক্ষুদ্র নৃগোষ্ঠীর শ্রমিকরাও কনকনে ঠাণ্ডা আর কুয়াশা উপেক্ষা করে কাঁদাপানির মাঠে নেমেছে ধানের চারা তুলছে, যেন মাঠ জুড়ে রোপন করছে চাষীদের মনের সোনালী স্বপ্নের বীজ। অন্যান্য এলাকার মতো বগুড়ার শেরপুর উপজেলাতেও বোরো ধান লাগানো শুরু হয়েছে। কদিন পরই ক্ষেত হয়ে উঠবে সবুজের সমারোহ। শেরপুর উপজেলা কৃষি অফিস সূত্রে জানা যায়, এ উপজেলায় বোরো আবাদের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ২০ হাজার ৭০০ হেক্টর।
লক্ষ্যমাত্রা থেকে ১ লাখ ২০হাজার মেট্রিক টন বোরো ধান উৎপাদনের জন্য তারা মাঠে নেমেছে। কাজ করে চলছে চাষীদের সাথে। উপজেলায় এবারের বোরো ক্ষেত চাষে সেচ দিতে ব্যবহার হবে ২৬৪টি গভীর নলকূপ ৭ হাজার ৮৮ টি অগভীর নলকূপ যার মধ্যে বিদ্যুৎ চালিত ১ হাজার ৮০টি, এলএলপি ১৩৯টি এবং সোলার পাম্প ২টি।
উপজেলার বিশালপুর গ্রামের বোরো চাষী মোখলেছুর রহমান ও নির্মল, সাগরপুর গ্রামের বোরো চাষী কাশেম আলী, মির্জাপুর গ্রামের চাষী মকবুল হোসেন বলেন, আমরা চারা তুলে নিচ্চি ১দিন পর করে এই ধানের চারা মাঠে ধান লাগানো শুরু করেছি। আবহাওয়া ভালো থাকলে ফলন ভালো হবে। তবে বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাটের আশঙ্কা করেছেন তারা। বোরো ধান লাগানোর কাজে ব্যস্ত দিনমজুর আব্দুল বারিক, ইদ্রিস আলী ও ক্ষুদ্র নৃগোষ্ঠী সম্প্রদায়ের সুরভী, কানন বালা সহ অনেকেই বলেন, এবার বোরো ধান লাগানোর কাজে ৪৫০-৫০০ টাকা করে হাজিরার কাজ করছি। দিনমজুরের ব্যাপক চাহিদা রয়েছে। উপজেলার বোরো ধান চাষিরা বলেন এবার আমন ধান খুব ভালো হয়েছে। আমন ধানের বাজারদর ভালো পেয়েছি। বাজারদর ভালো থাকার কারণে এবার বোরো ধান লাগাতে উৎসাহ বোধ করছি।
উপজেলা কৃষি কর্মকর্তা শারমিন আক্তার বলেন বোরোচাষিরা বীজতলা থেকে চারা সংগ্রহ করে রোপন শুরু করেছে। এবার উন্নত হাইব্রিড ফলনশীল জাত (উফশী) ব্রী ৮১ ব্রী ৬৩ জাতের ধানের ব্যাপক সাড়া পড়েছে। চাষীদের এই জাতের ধান আবাদের পরামর্শ বীজ সহায়তা এবং জাত সমপ্রসারণের জন্য প্রদর্শিত প্লট স্থাপনসহ আদর্শ বীজতলা তৈরি করা হয়েছে।
বোরো চাষীদের পটাশ সার ব্যবহার করার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হচ্ছে। এই সময় ধানে রোগবালাই ও পোকামাকড়ের আক্রমণের সম্ভাবনা থাকে। পটাশ সার ব্যবহার করে ধানের ব্লাস্ট রোগের প্রাদুর্ভাব প্রতিরোধ করা সম্ভব বলেও তিনি মত প্রকাশ করেন। ধানে কোন রোগ দেখা দিলে দ্রুত কৃষি অফিসের সাথে যোগাযোগ করার জন্য কৃষি অফিসের দরজা খোলা রয়েছে বলেও তিনি জানান।
