সরকারি ওয়েবসাইট দুমায় দেয়া এক বার্তায় বলা হয়, ‘২০২১ সালের ২৬ জানুয়ারি রাশিয়া ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্র এ চুক্তির মেয়াদ বাড়ানো বিষয়ে একটি চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করে। নিম্ন কক্ষে পেশ করা এ বিলে একটি ব্যাখামূলক মন্তব্য যুক্ত করে দিতে বলা হয়েছে। এতে বলা হয়, উভয় পক্ষ নিউ স্টার্ট চুক্তির মেয়াদ পাঁচ বছর বাড়ানোর ব্যাপারে নীতিগতভাবে সম্মত হয়েছে।
